I don't have the 100-400 yet .

But I do have the 10-22 , 17-55 and the 70-200 mk II .

Like the 100-400 , they are 77 mm . People have different thoughts as to why and what kind of hood to use .

1 . glare

2 . flare

3 . protection

4 . vignetting

5 . rubber hood [ colapsable ] for easier adjustment of CPL .

I choice which hood I use by circonstance . I am more worried about flare and glare than vigneting . A crowded room - thick brush - car / buss  , a shorter hood -  in the open - a longer one

I don't like screw on hoods - takes to long to install , except the rubber ones .
