Lucy with Charlie Brown and the football
Dec 20, 2012

Sorry, I've got to laugh looking at the long-term perspective and reading this conversation on wildlife shooting.  I have been with 4 3 and now m43 since the inception and the critic's bar is always changing.  It's like Lucy with Charlie Brown and the football.

No matter what the issue, there is always something that other systems have that m43 just falls short.   At first it was noise.  4 3 was noisy.  No one could use 4 3 to take photos indoors or after sunset.  Then, maybe around the time of the E620 / GH1, noise became ok.  So, the complaints moved on to DR.  DR was horrible with 43 and m43.  No one could take photos in the harsh daylight sun with these second rate cameras....they said.  Now that the noise and DR and even resolution are comparable to APS-C sensors, the main complaint recently has been DoF.  Yes, yes greater DoF has its advantages for say macro or low light, but we want thinner DoF.  So now with ultra fast lenses with thin DoF, we are now moving onto the C-AF whine.  Yes, yes S-AF is super fast and we have 600mm equivalent zooms for a cheap price, but how can one take great wildlife photos without great C-AF?

When PDAF comes to m43rds and Olympus introduces its $$$$$$$$ 300mm f2.8 prime and Sigma / Tamron offer their 1000mm equivalent zooms, what's next?

Olympus E-620 Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1
