Why still manual lenses?

If you can't get the specs for the AF protocol...

Voigtlander is not in the M43 consortium, so they don't have access to the full specs for the AF mechanism. It is likely that part of that protocol involves sending a copyrighted string, so that even if one could reverse engineer the protocol, they'd still be open to copyright violation suits if they marketed a lens that claims (electronically) to be an Oly or Panny lens, without first getting their permission to do so.

My guess is - getting into the consortium may involve making financial or contractual commitments that CV didn't think were justified by the expected small volume of sales, two years ago. As M43 is growing in popularity with enthusiasts, the sort of people who would be interested in a .95 lens, it might be a good time for CV and Oly/Panny to revisit the issue of getting those lenses to AF.
