More care could have been taken in the shooting of the photos, where the cameras were only vaguely pointed in the same direction. The crop-2 photos that I posted were taken from the right side of the frame, and the P7700 crop was much closer to the right edge of the frame than the X10 crop, where the optical quality would presumably be worse for the P7700 than the X10, whose crop was taken from a point closer to the center of the frame. Still, you can't really justify praising the X10 by saying that "for normal viewing they all look OK". If that's true, there's little point in reviewers praising the X10's lens, since for normal viewing, it woudn't make much of a difference. In the X10's defense, the photos were taken weeks apart, and I noticed this from the scene, long before checking the EXIF data. Slight changes in the quality of the light could have hurt the X10's image, but I suppose that I'm going too far overboard looking to excuse the X10's poorer image, which suffered not only from less detail, but from a slightly duller, murkier look.
