Zone Focus is quite important in some genres, like street shooting. But even in portrait one could prefer to have full and easy control on the focus.

Zone focus can be done with autofocus lenses on manual mode; you just need a focus scale.

Not being able to do zone focus is determined by the lack of focus scale, not because a lens is autofocus. In fact, a lot of autofocus lenses have a focus scale (not in the m43 world, as for the focus by wire thing)
