How really is FX better....

We don't have any tests using a 24MP FX or DX camera to compare. I'm sure we will soon, and then we can talk. For the time being, I'll grant that a mediocre lens on a 24 MP camera will likely outresolve an excellent lens on a 12 MP camera - regardless of format. I don't know about you, but I usually keep my lenses when I change body. However, there are other issues to consider such as distortion and vignetting.
