Recommend videocam for Mac?

Hi

I need to get a videocam as I record conferences for work and would also use it in my private life.

I borrowed a friends Panasonic which worked great and made good quality video, but as most of you will know, there was the .MTS problem, with the format not working in iMovie.

Is there a good video camera brand out there with a Mac friendly format? If so which?

Or are we all just stuck going through cumbersome conversion work flows?ç
