I used ETTR for a while, but come to the conclusion it sucks. Many times it makes highlights look bad and color shifts. And no, I never blowned highlighst or color channels, but still got some weird effects too often.

From my experience, if you have a tone that should fall in a certain exposure zone, you get the best results when you are actually expose the tone for that zone. So get exposure right in the camera gives me by far the best results.

I never tried RAW software like DCRaw or RPP, maybe ETTR will work with them, but in ACR or Aperture I say stay away from ETTR.
