Very hazy and smoky in the Tetons; why did my IR converted camera cut thru the smoke?

issues with IR conversion

absolutely none. I use a preset white balance by taking a picture of grass or other foliage close up; very easy on the D90. I know there are supposed to be some issues re: focusing and that certainly makes sense, however I have not noticed any problem, probably at least partially related to using settings producing moderate-large DOF. Still, lifepixel recommends you send the camera with the lens you will most often use. I didn't want to do that, sent only the camera, which I got back in two weeks.
