I always enable the histogram in the display when I am composing a photo to check if it needs any exposure compensation. If it looks too low, just dial in some + EV compensation.

I always look out for this now after reading reviews about NEX cameras having a tendency to underexpose, and like you find that this happens a lot indoors and in low light. In these situations I'll usually find myself shooting at +0.7 EV.
