IQ is now a blend of optics and processing .. to think that it is optics only is to be stuck in the past .... with big heavy lenses ...

The traditionalist in me still loves perfect glass.

But, size matters, as the actress said to the bishop!

People want smaller and lower cost cameras. I went with a NEX precisely because I wasn't able to continue lugging around 20 pounds of Nikon gear. It gave me a good sized sensor in a small and affordable package. I'm ready for the 4oz lens (albeit with some compromises) because I just can't handle the 4 pound monsters any more.

It seems Sony have demonstrated that small lenses with software correction are a viable proposition and I agree that we're likely to see this applied more and more frequently in the future.
