A very negative review of Sony 16-50mm

Well, it can be used if you make the corrections in post processing rather than rely upon firmware to perform that task.

Now, I do appreciate that creates some challenges with framing since the viewfinder view is uncorrected. That's an issue but I don't think it's a complete showstopper.

Also, this might be a short term issue. I'm guessing that Sony will migrate toward an architecture that places the lens correction function in the camera firmware but the lens-specific correction parameters in the lens. That means an old body would be able to perform the corrections with a brand new lens that it's never seen before. That puts us all back in a happy place. Speculation on my part, but speaking as an engineer, that's what I would do

I come from a Nikon background and although I have plenty of gripes with Nikon, their track record on compatibility is outstanding. But even they've have to make compromises from time to time in order to move forwards and I think we have to accept that.
