Question re: coating matt papers

I have two photos printed on Epson Hot Press Bright Matt fine Art Paper. What are the chances that I can use a product like Galmour II or ECO Premier Print shield. I use these on canvas. I use a roller to apply. It works great on canvas I tried it once on a glossy paper but it did not work it just sat on top. The Hot Press Matt is heaver and probably more porous. Has anyone tried this method of print protection.
