eventphotog - Why don't you consider whether it would be feasible to simply crop the pictures...

There is just now way to manage all of the distances rapidly without having a boatload of cameras hanging from your neck with a variety of lenses on them.

Likewise, lots of the zooms just don't have the reach. I know I am sacrificing quality, but I have been shooting 18-250 and 18-270 lenses on my DX body. Have ordered a D600 which will replace my D7000. I have a 24-120 which is wide enough, but not long enough, so I don't know what I will do for a lens yet.

where you need to get more reach.  A DX sized crop with your 24-120 lens would give you the equivalent of 36-180 and with 24.3 mp you have a lot of flexibility to crop and still get high resolution shots.  Just a thought.
