I'm not really asking for advice but I'd love to hear your opinions or just some creative input. How many of you have ever considered leaving the DSLR world for the much smaller mirrorless cameras?

If you only view on screen, a D800 is overkill. Your main benefit would be the greater dynamic range. That may not be enough to justify the extra weight and bulk.

Personally, I like big prints. I generally print one of three sizes: 16x24" (small), 20x30" (standard), and 24x36" (large). The D800 is very much worthwhile to me.

With film, my travel camera was a Pentax 645 with several lenses. I also shot with a 4x5. My Nikon SLR was mainly used when slides were needed for a specific purpose, and didn't get much use.

As technology advances, I can see where someone would prefer the increased freedom of using a smaller lighter camera. I prefer to go with improved quality.

Henri Cartier-Bresson didn't need an 8x10 camera to make great photos.
