Looking at different cameras, opinions wanted.
Dec 17, 2012

So I'm new to the pro-ish camera market. I'm looking at different cameras right now with no brand name loyalty. There are 3 different cameras that I am looking at and they are good for different reasons, or at least so I think.

The Nikon v1 interest me because it looks like it takes really good photos and is currently on a huge sale at $400 with the 30-110mm lens. Of course I would want to get a flash and or some prime lenses for it eventually.

At $550 I could get a Cannon t3i which is a pretty sweet looking pro camera. but I would want to buy an extra lens for it, probably at least a 50mm prime.

Also at $750 I could get the Sony A57 with 18-135mm lens. The A57 I know the most about and I am partial to this kit, but then I look back at the 400 dollar V1 and hesitate because I really really like the low price! What do you think? Well here is a little bit about me below, I posted this in the Sony Alpha talk about three weeks ago, the conclusion of that quesiton was that I needed to get a better light setup and light tent and maybe a better tripod. I agree with those ideas but it has not stopped my thirst for hardware. So let me know what you think.

I work as a volunteer blogging position for a very cool collectable figurine webpage called Tomopop . I just help out a little around the edge and to be honest I am more there because I enjoy collecting figurines more than I enjoy photographing them. My current camera is a humble little Panasonic ZS5. It is a nice point and shoot but I have not been able to squeeze super images out of it for some time, although some of my problems I have realized were caused by editing problems, as well as lighting issues which I am trying to sort out.

Not that I get bad photos out of it no. Here are links to some of my better reviews that I have written using my Panasonic ZS5 so you can get an idea of what kind of photography I do.

So with this, do you think the Nikon v1 would suit my needs, or should I keep looking at the pro solutions more so? Also yes I need to get a good tripod and or maybe a light tent, but I do not like the limitations of tents.. What kind of lamp or lighting would you consider using instead of a tent to show off products?

Here is the tripod I'm looking at, it might be overkill but looks awesome. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/828712-REG/Vanguard_ALTA_PRO_263AGH_Alta_Pro_263AGH_3_Section.html

Am I just goin hardware nuts here? I think I might be, but it's been fun. Oh I held a Nikon j1 in a target today with it's 30-110mm lens! It felt pretty good, much better in the hands than a NEX 5n. But the Canon T3I and Nikon A57 also felt so sweet to hold too.
