That probably won't make much difference.  The guide number is higher at the longer position because it concentrates the light more, but the flash tube does not put out any more light at the longer zoom position.  The wall or ceiling negates the concentration effect by scattering the light.

If the reflective area is smaller than what would be covered at 50mm zooming in will make some difference by not wasting the light on non-reflective areas.

Using a tighter zoom will also make the reflected light a bit harder.  This may not be enough to notice much though.
