Yes, it does add read noise but not a whole lot. Did you see this thread?

Of course, when shooting stars, it is therefore a bad idea to use it for the final shot (or shots). However, it may still be of help for quickly finding the right exposure.

Great stuff! Looks like it's perfect for things like outreaches and stuff like that.
