I was at that crossroad in my film days. I got tried of draging all of my lens with the body and film, too heavy. I eventually went to a light weight 35mm oly that had a small zoom lens. Nice camea until someone decided they needed it more than I. Well I am back to draging my camera (D800) and lens around with me. And I do miss light weight equipment; but I would miss my DSLR more and its capabilities. I hike also, and I carry my DSLR with me, but I carefully decide upon the lens. I normally will not carry my 24-70, too heavy; I take a 50 1.8 and a Sigma 10-20 (yea, I still love that lens on a full frame), lighter and meet my requirements.

It would be great to have a smaller camera, but the mirrorless cameras won't do all I need. Maybe in 10 more years I will tire of carrying my DSLR and then switch to a point and shoot. Merry Christmas.

I have been carrying heavy camera gear for many years. I have even used Mamiya 645 on week-long hikes several times. That one was heavy!

But I have really come to appreciate the small cameras the last few years. Maybe I'm getting lazy now at the age of 61?
