Not to state the obvious, but did you check for obstructions? Many printers ship with lots of tape and sometimes a plastic clip or two inside the machine to keep things secure during shipping. Folks who are eager to get things going can sometimes overlook one of those pesky little items inside the new printer.
I Hope you get it running without having to call in a return.
