Just purchased a 3TB MyBook (WD) that uses USB 3 and 2 via a special cable to a standard USB cable for the system.

At this time it is backing up my data for TimeMachine with no issues.  I did reformat it for OS X.

The drive came from BestBuy and was $149 plus tax.  That seems like a good value.
