X-E1: Spot metering and AE lock
Dec 16, 2012

I think I have this right, but it seems crazy.

If I have the camera in spot metering mode, it is not linked to the AF point. It is linked to an imaginary "spot" in the middle of the field of view. Is that right?

So, if I move the center of the field of view over the subject and then hit AE-L, it does not lock.  As soon as I move to my subject (which inevitably is NOT in the center of my frame, it determines another exposure value.

The only way for me to lock it is to keep holding AE-L down and then half press the shutter.  This can't be right as it seems like I am playing Twister with my fingers and this is not the way all other cameras have worked since the 1980s.

Am I missing something?
