P.S. I use a Western Digital TV box hooked to my TV via HDMI, this by-passes the Blu-ray step. What this gives me is full 1080p30 video without the need for authoring. For my .MOV files, I edit them with Premier Pro and then save to the WD-TV as one of MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or H.264 file formats. Not sure if your particular camera format would work on WD-TV or if you'd need to use some editor to save it in a compatible format.
When I do make discs for reading by a DVD (DVD for now, Blu-ray down the road) I use Encore which provides editing ability to create menus as fancy or default as needed and then burns the DVD (or Blu-ray). This is what I mean by 'authoring'. Creates all support files necessary as well as the actual video. I don't have experience with other editors, they may or may not have authoring built in.
