Ok this is getting a little bit tenuous but here goes.....maybe by the time the engineers did the fix the internal battery was dead - so settings gone. So then they glue the grip and do a quick power on test in which case they would've had to set the date/time/location just to get to the main menu. This would've also charged up the internal battery. All checks done they pack it back up and sent it off. You receive with internal battery with some charge left, with date/time/location set but your overall settings gone through initial loss of power and not by physically resetting back to manufacturer defaults.
