Why are people belittling the new 24-85mm VR lens?

As far as I'm concerned, it's quite fast and allows reasonable DOF control (comparable to f1.75-2.25 on m43 and f2.25-f3 on APS-C!). It has the great focal length range for a walk-around lens. It has IS. I haven't read anything horrible about it's optical qualities. Why do people belittle it?
