Lightroom and View NX don't play together with tags(keyword,rating)?

I've been playing with ViewNX/CaptureNX and Lightroom. It appears that Lightroom can't write ratings or keywords (and I presume Labels) directly into the NEF files. This means that I can't set a value in one application and then use it in in the other.

At the very least, I would think that Lightroom would be able to read the values set from ViewNX so that filters could be applied. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Am I missing something or is it true that you cannot do something as simple and valuable as leverage keywords and ratings across multiple products when using raw files?
