The problem with the pictures is the composition: the horizon is roughly in the middle, and I am certain, both pictures would be much better, if the horizon was higher, so the the (boring) blue sky is just about a third or even less of the frame.

Good light and details. I agree about the composition, which was my first thought. About the colors; they look fine but having not been at the scene, it is difficult to say how natural they look.
