How does FZ30 fare today?

This camera was almost a game changer when it first came out.  And is still one of the few bridge cameras that has the on lens manual focus and zoom length adjustment rings.  So, I'd like to hear from some folks here as to just how that camera stacks up against the newer (and now, often referred to as ) superzoom cameras.  The once long 12X zoom length pales in comparison to the longer 50X available on the Canon SX50.

But is the FZ30 still considered a "top-notch" performer when pitted against these newer ones?

Or is it time to lay it to rest?
