IMO, $750 is a lot to upgrade and still keep low end continuous lights. If you need to use continuous lights, upgrade to something that can accept modifiers. But you can get inexpensive strobes with modeling lamps, which will allow a plethora of accessories to go with it, including the above mentioned gobo projector. If you need to shoot continuous lighting, you can use the modeling lamps, lock the camera on a tripod, and use a long shutter speed.
3 AB 400's would cost $672, leaving some for additional materials. There are decent less expensive flash units as well, even speedlites.
But, if you maintain those lights, you can try saxonpc.com for affordable custom honey comb grids.
