Short Macro is probably my most-used type of lens these days. I like it for my product photos - the macros seem to do a truer rendering of my work (which is actually pretty important) and I certainly don't have to worry about maxxing out on close focus!

I've got an old Nikkor 55/3.5 that my dad used to use as his walkabout lens. Shown here set up for slide copying with the extension ring:

I've been curious to try other brands just for kicks. By the good graces of Craigslist, I wound up with this:

It handles beautifully and the focus action is extra fine (i.e. precise - good for critical close work). Optically, I can't tell it apart from the Nikkor (at least not in the first round of testing...)
