Canon 60D. What lens?

After 22 years of Nikon use I've finally got rid of my Nikon gear and am looking at buying a Canon 60D. Long story- but basically everyone here is shooting video with Canon and professional accessories(Cinema lenses) for Canon are easier to find.
The question is which lens should I buy with the body? I've narrowed it down to Canon EFS 18-135 or Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD. Where I live both lenses cost about the same.
Which works better with a 60D? Faster focus, ability to get in close are both an issue. I am thinking the range (i.e. 270mm) may not be such a big deal if the other two issues are better in the Canon. Specially if the focusing is faster.
