Sony warranty repair: why erase all my settings if you're just fixing the grip?

Just got my NEX7 back, warranty repair for my peeling grip.

What irks me: why do they erase all the camera's settings to fix a peeling grip? The fixed grip is nice, and I'm glad to have it back, but it's a chore to have to redo all my settings.
