High ISO NR when shooting RAW?

Does high ISO NR in the D800 do anything when shooting RAW? If so, what does it do? If one were shooting a nighttime soccer game at ISO levels about 6400 and shooting RAW, would you recommend using high ISO NR or not?
The D800 manual says that high ISO NR only kicks in above ISO 1600, but doesn't say whether it applies to RAW files or not.
