Need Canon rec - P&S that is fast

My in laws have a VERY basic Canon and it's just not catching pictures of the kids.  The battery is extremely slow, so the flash takes forever to fire.  Even when not on flash and on the sequential shots, it's still rather slow.  They are frustrated because they keep missing pictures of the grandkids.

So - what point and shot would you recommend?

Budget is $300 or less - prefer $200 - they don't want fancy, but they want it to not drag.  Main issue is catching the kids in pictures.  They use the auto feature and the scene features (landscape, kids and pets, etc.)  Nothing manual.  They have been using Canons for a while and it's what I use, so they want to stick with Canon.
