Which ORF codec to use, Oly's or Microsoft?

I have been using the ORF codec from Oly which enables thumbnails to be visible in Windows (but not Previews in Windows Photo Gallery).
The free viewer from Faststone shows thumbnails and previews but takes ages to create the thumbnails.
Does the new codec from Microsoft enable Previews to work or speed up Faststone?
