RX100 lanyard wrist strap replacement?

Venetian blinds in my condo have little plastic rings on the draw cords.  The don't seem important. So, I borrowed one for my Sony strap.  I threaded it on with a paperclip.  Works fine to apply enough tension to stop a drop and a slip.
