D5200 Vs D5100 which one to buy as 1st DSLR?

Hi, Angshu. Since Roman and Reilly have already posted, I thought I'd chime in and tip the balance in MY usual direction.

I lean more towards Roman's view. Reilly loves resolution, and I agree with his points for photographers at some point in their development; but you can get the D5100 now for a very good price, and it is a fabulous camera by any measure. You need to remember that a camera, lens, and a memory card are not the end of your expenditures here. You will be buying accessories, maybe more computing power, an editing program if the basic one that comes with your camera isn't enough, and, echoing Roman's comments, TRAINING to learn how to use your shiny new and very sophisticated tool properly. Best to balance the overall costs to allow for these very necessary add-ons.

As for the D5200's AF module and resolution, nice and nice...but the D5100's 11-pointer is a proven workhorse and more than enough. 16 vs. 24MP? Look at Roman's gallery on this site and here:

Those were all shot with 12MP or less and older generation camera bodies but with the best glass and, most importantly, the best techniques.

Oh, and lenses?  For now, just get an 18-105 and use it to learn.  Best bang for buck lens that Nikon makes. With it, you probably won't need the 55-200 that much if at all.
