D600 raw photos look washed out in Lightroom, Good in ViewNX

When I import my D600 raws into Lightroom 4.3 (and previously 4.2) they look washed out. If I then execute auto exposure LR typically reduces the exposure by about 1.7 or so, at which point they look closer to what I was expecting. At first I was assuming the problem was with the D600 but now with ViewNX I see proper exposure. My monitors are profiled so I don't think that is the problem. It is as if LR isn't interpreting the D600 raw correctly, but 4.3 has finalized the D600 profile. Any idea what could be causing this?
