Negative Space

One should know some of each of our favorites will not be well received by everyone.      Ever have an image win one challenge and rank low in another?

Just soak it in, take with you what you respect, and. . . you know what?   You'll have some of these comments in mind and you'll choose which ones relate to your vision and interpretation as you compose and develop moving forward.  The strongest and least appreciative comments of work I've been very proud of in the past have been disappointments - but having those thoughts in mind (even years later) has helped me in the long run.  Part to understand audiences, part to understand better what *I* want to express (and audience be damned).

I'm conflicted still - in the original I'm distracted by what looks like the use of a NDG filter.   In the version posted later on I'm not distracted for that, but the finish isn't as compelling.   If it were mine I'd revisit the developing again.   But then I do that often, seeing more refined aspects that disturb me, or might be disturbing to others, while re-revewing my work after I think I've done my best and posted it online for all to see.

I don't feel the same as the others about the position of the boat, but with that and my observation, remember you're talking to peers.  More so, peers that respect your work in general - which means you've set your own bar high in their eyes.   I'd wager that if these were framed for sale in an outdoor market they'd sell well.  Very well.   Maybe not as well as other work of yours with regard to those that also practice the craft.   It happens.
