I sent this message to Nikon via e-mail and inquiry form.

I politely request that this complaint be taken to Mr. Makoto KIMURA of Nikon Japan.

Dear Sir,
As a consumer of Nikon products I wish to express my deepest dissatisfaction with the products provided by Nikon. I live in Sri Lanka and in the beginning of 2011 bought two Nikon P7000 camera’s from Hong Kong as they were not available in Sri Lanka. Within the first two months the serial numbers on both camera’s got erased due to bad printing.

I am extremely disappointed in the P7000 because of inaccurate focus found on the Nikon P7000 in general low light. I am also dissatisfied in many angles of the product including the fact that while processing RAW In camera, the selection list does not remember its last location so it jumps off to the start once a file is processed. I’ve hoped that P7000 Firmware 1.2 would have resolved the issue but it did not. The firmware improved the focus of the camera but its improvement was not significant.

Adding to the fire my P7000’s also suffered from the issue that the lens covers did not retract fully issue and was asked by Nikon Hong Kong to replace the lens unit, I made a home solution by removing and taking away the lens covers completely off the camera, instead of spending more on a worthless piece of junk. Later one of my P7000’s mode dial malfunctioned to find that the connecting ribbon has cracked so I threw it away in the garbage. I have now only one function P7000 without the front lens covers.

I would like to say that the cheap Chinese camera’s have done a better job with software and hardware and Nikon being a Japanese company would like to inquire as to how such a product of so many faults moved into the market. Bad Focus system, highly bent ribbon position (mode dial ribbon bound to crack), software bugs.

I’ve written to Nikon in at many places and all that has happened is that the e-mail has been forwarded to local Sri Lankan dealer which has no idea of these issues as they never sold such a model. I wish to move away from Nikon because Nikon did such a dirty thing by selling such a piece of crap and replacing it with the P7100 as if nothing happened leaving us behind in the dark with a useless 500 dollar investment. But I’m having trouble moving away because all my speedlites are made for Nikon including the SB-900 I had bought. I would be grateful if you’ll can give me a solution to my issues.
