I think this is something you will have with pretty much any color filter array sensor. The Fuji X-trans sensor has a broader pattern so interpolation errors particularly at edges can be expected to be a little worse than normal bayer pattern sensors.

It's a tradeoff between color moire and bleeding apparently. I already have an X-E1 so I won't worry about it. I do see the issue clearly in the images the OP presented.

If you want something that does not have the problem at all, try Sigma. The DP2M is only $800. Sigma does not interpolate between pixels because each 3-layer pixel records full color. Yes you can really tell the difference, particularly with a top grade lens in front of the sensor, and the DP2M has this too.

I have a Sigma SD1 (same sensor as the DP2M) and bought an X-E1 for its convenience and portability. So, when I want to print 24"x36" I can just use the Sigma. But for everything else my X-E1 seems to be the camera.

Spot on (IMHO). What's been described as 'bleeding' in the images the OP posted is just due to the interpolation. It happens with any color transition but is quite visible with red/white, and it is inevitable for a sensor that incompletely samples a scene.

So far, I only have a couple of X-E1 images with strong red contrasts. The effect that the OP laments isn't really visible at 'normal' printing sizes at 'normal' viewing distances and only barely visible at 100% (which is not a normal printing/viewing size).

I would suggest to compare the X-E1 images to images from any other camera that is a contender and decide which trade-offs one is willing to accept.
