FF on the cheap - 5D mark I or 1Ds mark I ?
Dec 12, 2012

I've got a crop camera already but wanted to add a full frame camera - I've already got the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 & 50 f1.8 (of course) so no added costs... and with a baby on the way I'm unlikely to be able to upgrade for a loooong time. Usage will be general family shots & the like.

£350 nets me the 1Ds mkI. Bombproof construction, proper sealing on the body (not that I'd be able to afford sealed lenses), good autofocus.

£400 gets the 5D mkI. Smaller & lighter body, faster in operation (better menu system and faster writing to the card), better performance at 'high' ISO of 800 and 1600.

I see the 1Ds mkII at £750... well out of my budget but I've seen a couple go for £500... worth holding out for?

My gut feeling is that the 5D mkI is the way to go. Does anyone disagree?
