I can remember when Made in Japan meant Poor poor quality. Times change. Your 35mm lens isn't a kids toy, Sony is a big company and they do have quality control procedures. My new 10-18mm E-mount zoom is Made in China as well. From what I can tell its a great lens and I'm not expecting it to fall to pieces any time soon.
Come to think about it, the iPad I'm writing on is Made in China too. Pretty nice gizmo.
