That's odd. If you tested it in a completely dark room, what could be generating light? The only explanation would be related to the AF light beam leaking to the sensor, but you would notice the red glare with any lens.

Also, you mentioned that the red glare was more visible in longer exposures, and that's another thing that doesn't make sense in a dark room.

Can you do the test with the lens cap and the VF covered, and then without the lens cap but with the VF still covered?
