The 135mm 2.8 is PERFECT for sports and theatre. It's a great focal length and the fast aperture allows for some really quick shutter speeds!
I would also recommend the Minolta 200mm 3.5 to round out the shots in, say, an endzone or the other side of the rink.
85mm is also a good focal length to provide a slightly wider view, but honestly I think 135mm is perfect for shooting from the sidelines, the bench seats, or the mezzanine.
Most adapters will run between 10-20 bucks form eBay and Amazon.
Even compared to "budget" lenses, like the Sigma 30/19, legacy lenses with adapters are a HUGE BARGAIN.
