But regardless. Apple only does well when Steve Jobs was on the job. And even still in 45 years, they are still less than 10 percent or even if we believe what you say is true, if they are superior why in 45 years have they not taken over the market.

My take on why Apple had not taken over the market is because businesses have overwhelmingly used IBM compatible PCs. Employees often based their home computer purchase based on the type of computer they use at work because:

  1. They received training on that type of computer (IBM compatible) so decided to buy the same type of computer for their home use.
  2. They might want to do some work at home so want a compatible computer.

Add to that:

3. IBM compatible computers are cheaper than Apple computers.
4. There's a lot more software available for IBM compatible computers than Apple computers.

Note that none of the above has "superiority" as a factor. Apple's OS and UI might be superior to Microsoft's OS and UI but the masses hadn't considered that in the past.

If Windows 8 is not adopted by businesses because Microsoft refuses to reinstate the Windows 7 user interface in Win8, then businesses might be inclined to shift to the Mac since their employees will have to learn a new UI anyway. In addition to losing business purchases, there could be a significant impact on home computer purchases based on items 1 and 2 above.
