I'm thinking of renting the 24-70cz over the holiday. I think after that I should be able to determine if the cheaper route is a better choice or the performance of the 24-70 is worth its price.

Thanks for the link...all I really read (selective blindness?) there was 'if image quality is important   ...   go CZ', although there were some strong cases made for less expensive lens. I;ll be interested in your holiday experiences.
