Why did Microsoft do it?

The scary thing is their three pronged strategy. They have a new business plan that has three elements. 1) Get into the tablet market, 2) open stores where they will sell hardware, and 3) have an on-line store where they will sell applications.

But if you think about it, that just a one pronged plan: 1) copy Apple, 2) copy Apple, and 3) copy Apple.

And as they are coming to the dinner an hour late, after Apple has gobbled up most of the market, and considering Google is trying the same thing (Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, and the "Play" store) ...

... all that they are going to be getting is crumbs.

Life is hard if you're a technology company that doesn't know how to innovate. That's the scary thing.
