Hmm.  I've given the D5100 back.

The 105VR is cheaper and focuses much closer than the 70-200 F4, and it's hard to believe that the zoom will out-resolve the naked 105VR lens.  If you want more than 105mm, there are other 150mm, 180mm and 200mm macro lenses that would be good choices also.  I am not sure why you would consider the zoom for your purposes, unless you are considering it for other uses also. I suppose one possible advantage would be that you could use the zoom to change the field of view without moving your tripod.  Aside from this, I'm not sure I see an advantage.
