Exact half resolution not usual?
Dec 11, 2012

Hi readers.

My cheap take-anywhere pocket DC from Samsung makes quit noisy pic's (but it has gone thru a lot - that's something, right ). Now there's no "half resolution" setting. full Resolution is 4000x3000px, the closest to 1/2 res is 2048x1536px. Now, even on my entry-level dslr has a full resolution of 4272x2848px and again, no exact 1/2 resolution - it's 2256x1504px.It's my understanding, that combining 4pixels results in the best quality scaling rather than doing some "uneven" scaling. Who knows why they are doing this?

I'm thinking about scaling down many noisy images even from my dslr down to half resolution, because i don't see any advantage of storing so many pixels if the difference isn't visible and with ssd's HD-Space starts to matter for me again, and I want all pic's with me all the time when I travell.

Maybe it has to do with printing resolution? Any explanations/thoughts or tips?
